Free City Building Games Online: Town Builders (2026)
Last updated: October 4, 2026
A free city building game lets you plan and grow a town without paying up front. This page lists free browser city builders, notes which ones run with no download, and compares how each handles money. Legend of Gods, a free browser town builder with armies and strategy, is one option.

What a city building game is
A city building game asks you to lay out a settlement, put up its buildings, keep the town supplied and watch it grow. What “free” means changes from game to game: some are free to install and sell things inside, some run free in a browser, some are free with purchases that shorten waits. This page separates the two worlds: the list below is browser games only, and the table flags the mobile apps for what they are. The genre’s history is on City-building games on Wikipedia.
Every game in the list below is a free city building game in one sense: you can start without paying, and all of them run in a browser. What happens after you start is each game’s own model, and the table states it plainly. Searches like medieval city building games and city building games online lead here because the browser builders are the ones you can try in a tab, with no installer.
Free city building games online
Five browser builders first, Legend of Gods last. Where a page we checked did not state something, the entry says so. If you are comparing town building games online, the table in the next section puts the models side by side.
- BuildCity is a free 3D browser city builder that runs entirely in the browser with no client to install. It has idle mechanics: according to its official site, taxes accumulate up to a cap while you are offline. Its FAQ describes the game as free and mentions no purchases.
- SuperCity is a free browser city-building simulation with a multiplayer mode, and it plays in a browser on PC, Mac, iPad or Android tablet. The site claims more than 15 million lifetime players; purchase details are not stated on the page we checked.
- City Builder (CrazyGames) is a browser simulation game where you become the mayor of a town, released on CrazyGames in February 2024. CrazyGames hosts it for free; the page does not state the business model explicitly.
- Elvenar is InnoGames’ fantasy city builder in a world of elves and humans: you build cities, gather resources and search for relics. It runs in a browser and on mobile, free to play with optional in-game purchases.
- Forge of Empires is InnoGames’ strategy city builder with PvP battles: it starts in the Stone Age and advances through eras of human history to the far future. It is free to play, by Wikipedia’s account of its launch coverage, and it runs in a browser with iOS and Android apps. Forge of Empires on Wikipedia has the game’s history.
- Legend of Gods is a free browser-based fantasy strategy MMO: you build a town, train heroes, raise armies and fight turn-based battles in a shared world, with no download. Its diamonds buy convenience and never exclusive content.

How Legend of Gods builds a town
Legend of Gods is a free city building game in the browser, and the entry in the list that adds an outside to the town. In town you place buildings, keep the town supplied and upgrade them level by level: 15 buildings, each with ten levels, and you can look over the 15 buildings before you plan your own. Diamonds, the premium currency, speed up the build and recruit queues and never unlock exclusive units, buildings or content. The game is a rebuild of the original 2012 Legend of Gods for modern browsers and mobile.

The screenshot above is the town screen: the buildings you have placed and the queues working through them. Unlike the builders above, Legend of Gods adds heroes, armies and a shared world around the town: heroes lead armies, the land between the towns is shared with other players, and its battles are turn-based. That mix, a persistent multiplayer town builder with armies and strategy attached, is what the search results for this page did not otherwise offer. Legend of Gods is not just a quiet builder: it is the pick when you want the war as well.

The screenshot above is that shared world map: towns, mines and lakes, with other players’ towns among them. If that sounds like your kind of game, read how to play Legend of Gods, open Legend of Gods, or start playing now.
